Germany in transition: strategic alignment and implementation in times of transformation pressure

TTE Strategy study shows that 40% of companies have not yet clearly defined their goals for 2030
Many companies in Germany have ambitious growth plans and are determined to meet the challenges of the future. However, the new study by strategy consultancy TTE Strategy shows that a significant number of companies are still working on their strategic clarity for 2030. This is particularly evident in aspects such as sustainability, digitalization and promoting innovation.

The TTE Strategy Study 2024, for which 120 C-level executives from six key industries in Germany and Switzerland were surveyed, provides insights into the strategic planning of the German economy. With a focus on the years 2025 and 2030, the study shows the challenges companies expect to face when implementing their growth targets and how they can counter the increasing pressure to transform.

Growth and clear strategies required by 2025

A majority of 75% of the companies surveyed have defined a detailed action plan for 2025. For 55%, the growth of their top line is the main focus, but 34% see the stability of their company as an equally high priority. Coping with rising costs and ensuring competitiveness are key challenges that 38% of companies cite for their future planning. Nevertheless, companies are positive about the future: over 91% of managers surveyed are optimistic or very optimistic about the development of their company.

Long-term prospects up to 2030 - between planning uncertainty and sustainability goals

A differentiated picture emerges for the year 2030: almost 40% of companies state that they lack strategic clarity for the next five years. The reasons for this are a shortage of resources, rapidly changing market conditions and an often short-term focus on immediate priorities. The majority of companies that already have a long-term vision use external support: 61% rely on strategic consulting to meet the requirements of sustainability and digitalization. Increasing legislation and stricter regulations are increasing the pressure on companies to develop and implement sustainable and innovation-driven strategies.

Success factors for a future-proof strategy: market understanding, agility and clear responsibilities

The TTE Strategy study highlights three key success factors that are crucial for a future-proof corporate strategy: Market understanding and customer focus (43%), clear vision and objectives (40%) and comprehensive risk management (38%). Clear trends are also emerging in terms of implementation: 22% of companies prioritize agility and fast decision-making, while 18% rely on a clear distribution of roles and responsibilities. A structured strategy program is becoming increasingly important - 89% of those surveyed attach a high to very high value to it, as it creates transparency, structure and efficiency in the implementation of the corporate strategy.

The German economy in transition: strategic clarity as the key to competitiveness

The results of the study paint a picture of an economy that is determined to secure its competitiveness and meet the demands of a changing world. “Especially in times of massive transformation, strategic clarity is the key to success,” emphasizes Lars Linnekogel, Managing Director at TTE Strategy. “Companies need practicable and implementable strategies that cover both short-term and long-term goals and at the same time enable a strong focus on the needs of their customers.”

The TTE Strategy Study 2024 makes it clear that the future viability of German companies depends to a large extent on a clear strategic direction that both adapts flexibly to market changes and includes a long-term vision for growth and sustainability.
