Enabling Strategic Pricing Capabilities for a Global MedTech Company

Case

Our client, a global MedTech company, aimed to launch a new concept for price management and implement a new pricing solution that stores all prices centrally to increase pricing transparency, protect product value and drive profitability on a global scale.

To begin with, the status quo of all pricing processes was investigated, starting with building an understanding of the current pricing landscape and the related processes across all business units. For this we discussed pricing with all organizational levels and ensured exchange between those business units to develop a holistic picture and drive strategic alignment. Ensuring alignment was a key requirement for the projects’ success. The business requirements, pricing strategies and concepts needed to work as one covering global, regional and local requirements in order to design and develop a functional end to end solution. Informed by the resulting framework and requirements the solution of a pricing repository was designed.

Identifying and mapping all pricing processes across global, regional and local teams, highlighting interrelations and designing a holistic picture that serves as the foundational strategy for the company-wide pricing repository.

Mapping and designing the holistic view on the pricing processes in close collaboration with the client teams, thereby ensuring the foundation for the future stems from within the organization; followed by driving continuous alignment between business and IT teams in the execution of the strategy and development of the pricing solution, to ensure requirements are translated correctly.

Co-Creation for real buy-in
Involving all organizational levels from the start in the strategy design through to the development of the solution and refinement of requirements, enabled smooth business deployment, a successful go-live of the repository and easy adoption. All involved business stakeholder groups where individually taken on the change journey that they had helped design by providing their input during the process mapping activities.

In close collaboration with our main stakeholder, we created tangible value and real impact by ensuring transparent communication and fostering the exchange between key stakeholder groups. Prior to the project’s start, there was limited to no exchange between the different organizational levels, resulting in a fragmented process landscape that hindered a unified vision, strategic clarity, and direction for pricing activities.

We supported the creation of an end-to-end view and approach to visualizing pricing activities, enabling an aligned strategy and a common direction for the client’s pricing efforts. Establishing a unified approach to pricing safeguards profitability and product value, while also providing a consistent foundation of requirements for IT solutions that support pricing processes in the long term.

Business value creation was ensured by enabling continuous exchange between business and IT stakeholders and by supporting the translation of needs and requirements on both sides. To ensure continued value capture in the future, a comprehensive project plan was set up for further IT development, business deployment, and the derivation of business concepts.

  • We coordinated the activities and perspectives of a diverse group of key stakeholders, ranging from IT developers to global pricing leaders, to ensure business requirements are understood and implemented, while adhering to all expectations and ensuring functionality across IT landscapes.
  • Functioning as the business product owner, we enabled the development of the repository in close collaboration with the IT team, by continuously reviewing and refining the solution requirements with the responsible business stakeholders.
